Remove the air cleaner: onsome cars there may bepipes from theemission-control systemfixed to the underside ofthe casing. Disconnect the plug leads bypulling the caps, not theeasily damaged leads. Disconnect the fuel supply fromthe carburettor, plugging thepipes with rubber bungs or oldpencils to stop fuel running out.Also disconnect throttle andchoke cables, and all vacuum oremission-control pipes on thecarburettor and manifold. Disconnect the exhaust pipe fromthe manifold; support the pipe ifthere is a risk of straining itsmountings. Drain the coolant by opening theradiator and cylinder-block drainplugs, if any, or by taking off thebottom radiator hose; thendisconnect the top hose.
